Area of Legal Concentration
Jason has dedicated his practice to the areas of ad valorem property tax appeals and commercial real estate. He regularly represents clients throughout Illinois in administrative and adjudicative proceedings in order to secure favorable tax assessments and exemptions. Jason’s experience includes numerous hearings and appearances before the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board, the Boards of Review for Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, and Kane counties, and the Circuit Court of Cook County.
Jason’s work focuses on assessment appeals for commercial and industrial properties including warehouses, office buildings, shopping malls, hotels, data centers, self-storage buildings, and apartment buildings. Representative properties have included landmark downtown Chicago office buildings, e-commerce distribution centers, and cold storage facilities. At each level of appeal, his work has resulted in substantial savings for taxpayers. Jason has successfully resolved valuation appeals that reduced a single industrial warehouse’s taxes by $2 million annually and reduced a shopping center’s tax liability by $26 million over a three-year period.
Jason also represents industrial property owners in obtaining Class 6b tax incentives, which can reduce the tax burden of eligible industrial properties in Cook County by approximately 60%.
As one of only a limited number of attorneys in Illinois who have successfully contested undervaluation appeals filed by taxing districts against taxpayers, Jason has experience handling the full spectrum of tax appeal matters on behalf of taxpayers.
Jason counsels clients throughout the duration of property ownership. He regularly advises clients during the acquisition of properties as well as budgeting for and controlling real estate taxes.
